On behalf of the author of "The Climbers" I can offer some ideas to approach the game in different ways for a change:
"Walls and Bridges" Allow to use your ladders to build bridges to cross chasms - even to higher levels if your ladder is long enough. Allow to use double-cube-blocks to build bridges over chasms. your token may move on it according to the moving rules (same colour or gray) if it can access the surface, other blocks may be placed on top of the block.
"Anarchy" Before the match each player takes a half-cube block and a double-cube block which he may place during the game instead of turning or moving a block from the structure. Anything goes! Build as you want! Ladders and stop stones can be used as often as required. This game ends when a) no more moves are possible or b) all players have set their blocking stones during the same round.
"Tournament" Determine the number of rounds so that each participant plays three games. At the end of each game each player gets points for every step (height of a half-cube-block) he has climbed. Each step is worth 1 point. Unused leaders count bonus: small ladders = 4 points, big ladders = 8 points. Who has achieved the most points after 3 games wins the tournament.
"Double Trouble" - playing with two sets If you combine two games of "The Climbers" you can play with up to 10 players: Build teams of two players according to their colours. Players of the same colour have to play their turns directly after each other in a row. (Adds a little dexterity factor - the author recommends protective clothes and helmets for this one)
Have Fun!!!
