Taken from www.amiami.jp

Couldn't find anything about this on days of wonder's website, and nothing came up on google or BGG. Description of the game is:

Designer: Alan R Moon
No. of players: 2-5 Play
Play time 30-50min.

This expansion set unleashes two monsters to the world of Ticket to Ride.
The monsters raid on the cities one after another, blocking the railways to the cities they are staying.
The monsters can be transferred to another city by using cards.

Sounds awesome, but I can't seem to find anything more about it anywhere else, so I'm not even sure if it's real...

D'oh! We were about to launch a mystery contest for DoW for this expansion, but it relied on no one knowing of its existence! Oh well... we'll have to come up with another idea.

surprise Wowww, how exciting... and how very Japanese. I think this might be the expansion I have been waiting for.

Thanks for posting. (although bummer on the plans of DoW/BGG)

So does that confirm that this is, in fact, a real expansion?

It appears to be. At least with USA and Europe, I know. Apparently it comes with two sculpts.. 1 godz.. er giant lizard monster and an alien saucer. Also 20 or so monster cards. That's what I remember for sure thumbing through a mag in a store today. Looks to release in Feb 2011.

Hmm, I can not see the japanese site (company rules), but found it on http://boardgamenews.blogspot.com/2011/01/monsters-purchase-... .

My girlfriend is a fan to TTR, so I will definately buy it as soon it will be available.

I can only hope it is not a bad joke ...

The history of TICKET TO RIDE Monsters
Hi All,

The third TICKET TO RIDE map I designed was Japan, back in 2005. At that time, Days Of Wonder was trying to license the game to a Japanese company and we assumed they would want a Japanese map rather than the USA or Europe maps. In the end though, Bandai decided to put the USA map in their edition.

My Japan map included Godzilla right from the start. It just seemed like a natural fit to me. Part of the inspiration came from my enjoyment of playing MANHATTAN with the Godzilla rules. If you've never played MANHATTAN this way, you should give it a try.

As time went by, it seemed like the Japan map wasn't going to be published, so I suggested to Days Of Wonder that we publish a small Monster Expansion for all the maps instead. They tested my first prototype and didn't think it was enough, so I went back to work. I added a second Monster (originally Rodan), changed the way the Monsters were moved on the board, and much more. I don't know how many different versions I tested, but this last one is definitely the most fun. The addition of the Monster Cards, and giving the player who moves each monster points at the end of the game, was the final step.

I hope you all enjoy it.

Happy New Year!
Alan R. Moon

Thanks Alan for the context, because I think a lot of us were scratching our heads when we saw "monsters + Ticket to Ride". (Though, the Japan map sounds like fun too!)

I didn't see it in the rules, but one would assume that if Stations or Depots are used on cities, that would block the abilities of Monsters to create a "City in Chaos".

Rule Clarificaton
Nothing can be done in a city with a Monster, so you can't build a Station or Depot in a city with a Monster and you can't move a Passenger into or through a city with a Monster.

Dear Mr. Moon,

You've suddenly created a huge demand for a Japanese map to be released at a worldwide scale. Godzilla awaits.

Yeah, it's usually the other way around, Japan waits for Godzilla. Alan, you need to talk to Friese and find out how to churn out maps every week or so.

This post is dedicated to Critical Bill:

BTW, I only posted here just so I say I was on the same geek thread as Alan Moon

Thanks for the clarification. What about the reverse? Can a Monster move into a city with a Station already in place?

Yes, you can move a Monster into a city with a Depot, Station, or Passenger.

I am surprised DOW didn't release it as a bigger expansion with Alvin and Dexter. It seems like a ton of people would like a new map AND the monsters that could be used on any map.

agreed

I have everything "Ticket" but won't waste time or money on this.....I can't believe they won't come out with anymore expansions for Colloseum or Shadows but put out a piece of crap like this.....it doesn't even fit the game?!?!?!

I think someone made a mistake and this was supposed to be a "small World" expansion

horrid
