I need a ruling here.

If, when explaining the rules to a three-year-old, you read the rule "If you pull a monster out of the bag", and she suddenly yells "I WANT MOMMY!!!!" and runs away, are you supposed to do next?

You explain that by sitting at the table she had agreed to play the game and that by running away and yelling for mommy she has forfeited and you will be entering this as a "Win" on BGG.

...yeah, I tried that, but she correctly pointed out that since I hadn't completed explaining the rules, it doesn't count as a play.

Or you can chase after your daughter as you yell to your wife that you were just explaining a game, you weren't trying to scare her.

Remove the monsters pre-game, and play w/ just the furniture. Once she handles that level, she's ready to move up to real games such as California

Yep that was 12 Power Grid maps back to back over two days. Worth doing, but possibly not in such a concentrated burst.
