After playing Focus on the PC, (found in the download section) , I relized that you can play using two checkers sets.

I was able to get two sets at Target for $1 each.

Yes, Sid Sackson (Focus' designer) even published instructions for playing Focus on a checkerboard in his book "A Gamut of Games", chapter 4 "New Battles on an Old Battlefield", pages 125 to 134.

Quote:
For playing FOCUS you will need a checkerboard with the four corners missing as shown in illustrations 1 and 6.... For two players you will need checkers of two colors, 18 for each. Two regulation sets will take care of this. Those with interlocking edges work best.
