I thought the initial explanation of the token was clear, and then the example (I'm sure due to translation issues) made it unclear to me.

Can you use this bonus to swap 2 existing trader/merchants (presumably one of yours and one of an opponents)?

If so, does that count as both moves, or just one?

Yes.

Both. You may move two pieces of wood total (resources only, no kontors).

Edit: The easiest way to think of this rule is to pick up into your hand X wooden pieces (traders or merchants). Then place those resources back onto the board in empty trade route slots.

X for this bonus is 2. X for the movement action is your current book value.

I am more confused now by the mention of the book value

So to clarify....
I can replace any two markers (not offices) with mine. Are my markers already on the board?
Opponents markers are removed and placed below their desk.
This is one action.
Do I have it right?

No.

The Move action, which is one of your regular actions, works this way: grab a number of your resources from the board (not in kontors) equal to whatever your book skill is showing, and then put them back wherever you want on empty road spaces (not into kontors). Everything you picked up is put back on the board somewhere. This takes one action.

This new permanent bonus marker works like that, but you can pick up other resources instead of just your own. Everything picked up is put back on the board somewhere. This is not an action, it is a bonus when completing a sea route with that bonus marker.

Don't confuse Move with Displace, which is a separate action I don't want to write an explanation for right now.
