I own (and love the heck out of) Kingsburg; is Alia Iacta Est sufficiently different that I need a copy? Or will I find that they are pretty similar? Looking for someone who's played each of them preferably more than once.

The only similarity is that you roll and then place dice. They are two completely different games.

I say they are complete different games and I have played both multiple times.

I own them both and love them both. I enjoy AIE slightly better, doesn't take as long to play. AIE probably plays better with 2 and Kingsburg with more. But, both good, you cannot go wrong with both in your collection, they are different enough.

AIE is pretty much a pure dice game, comparable to To Court the King or Airships. Kingsburg is a game played with dice, comparable to Yspahan or Troyes. So IMO, they really are very different games.

Which is the better one between AIE, Airships, and To Court the King?

I like AIE and Airships better than TCtK.

They provide different feels, so it's tough to answer. Airships is all about the dice manipulation *before* rolling, almost puzzle solving - "Ok, I have 3 white dice, 2 red dice, and 1 black dice. I need 1 red and 2 black. So I'll use this card I own to turn my 3 white dice into a 3rd red, then I'll use this to turn 2 red into a 2nd black..." Rolling the dice is mostly a pass/fail thing.

AIE is all about what to do with what you rolled. OK, I got 2,2,4,4,6. Where can I play that on the board to get what I need?
