As I own a Ludo board...can I also play traditional Pachisi (which sounds a lot more sofisticated)? Having looked at uploaded photos on the site it would seem not as the pachisi cross appears to have 8 spaces to the home, while my Ludo board has only 5. Am I correct in saying that they each have their own board?

I think you are right - Ludo is a simpler game and the board is different.

Ludo is a variation and the only version of this game I've ever come accross in England, where it used to be very popular as a children's game up until the 1970s. Although they are different games, probably too similar for Ludo to have its own entry on BGG.
