The inside of my box for this expansion has some black smudges, possibly where the insert touched it. Does anyone know what causes this?

I don't know...maybe something wicked in your boxgoo.

[seriously, though, I never took my insert out to look...I did take the insert out of the base game and threw everything in there, but not the expansion box]

It is not an expansion-only thing: my core game box has it. When I noticed it, I checked it rather thoroughly, but I was unable to find out what caused it.

So why am I posting this? Well, just to let you know you are not alone in this

Since the smudges won't spread, there is no risk of harm to any components, but it would be mildly interesting to learn what causes them.
