I purchased this and do not know what to do with it!

So we had a games day today and to open it up we broke out S'Quarrels - the game my girlfriend made me buy because if 'I bought more games she wanted she might play more games with me' (yea, she used that line). And I grudgingly picked up the game (having read nothing about it).

So we convinced the group to open with it - seemed like a good warm up (and it was). The four of us sat around the table and we dealt out the starting hands... I began the game storing some nuts and passing my turn.

Turn went around for a few rounds as we carefully walked ourselves through our first turns and realized the rules really were quite simple. Then we hit the first Quarrel - then it began to turn towards interesting; my girlfriend played two 5's in a row and ate me alive (5-4) (storing a triple 5 purely on Quarrel winnings!)

Then, a Hoard hit the table - at first the group was like 'ok... and?' my girlfriend greedily gobbled up the massive Hoard pile and stored a bunch of nuts and then they were like 'AH HA!' the next Hoard wasn't so calm - as we bit, claw, chewed and thwacked each other to get to it first... and then it was on!

My girlfriend took the first round with a whopping 24 points to the next nearest 14, and I had a mere 5 bringing in last place...

Round 2!

Round 2 saw Winter drawn before we even had a single other action card.. it was short and not very brutal at all. I did pretty well for myself this time around.. but still not enough to catch up from my weak weak round 1.

Round 3!

Luck reared her ugly head on me... On turn 1 I stored some nuts and didn't get another turn for what must have been 3 months of the year! How you might wonder? Well, I won some Hoards.. that were 1 card so I couldn't store and then I'd draw and draw a Quarrel - while holding a 2 as my best nut... which I lost to my girlfriend and her bloody 5 nut... then she took a turn and when I finally got a turn I drew a... Hoard. Next turn a Quarrel... It was disgusting how unlucky I was! Net score for the round... 4. I managed to do worse than round 1! In any case, my girlfriend was now sitting at a nice healthy 38 and my other friends at 31 and 46 (we had decided to play to 50)... I had 19.. Things weren't looking good.

Round 4!

So we moved into the last round, and I was dealt a beautiful 5,5,4,4,3,2,Golden Nut. This was made even sweeter when the first card drawn was a Quarrel and I played 5... which tied with 2 others and followed with a Golden Nut which won me the wealth to store a 5 and 4 triplet and be set up for another 4 triplet when my turn came around again...

This round was a bit longer than round 2 (which was very brief) but when the tally came in I had a whopping 21 points in this short round - having cleaned up quite nicely.. My girlfriend got whacked with the Rotten and only stored 5 so managed to get 0 points this round.. But my friend scored 4 - exactly enough for him to win.

After Thoughts

All in all S'Quarrels was a fun game and perfect as a warm up game to set the mood for a day of gaming - that mood being fun. I happily recommend it as such (and my girlfriend does too!)

There's not a lot of strategy, or thinking, but its fun its quick and its vicious!

Would you say this is a fun game for adults? I'm attracted to the cute theme and artwork, but I don't want to get lambasted for purchasing an obvious kids' game.
