sorry if this is a repeat question (I looked at a few of the "Scoring?" topics).

During the game last night my friend wanted to do nothing during scoring. My interpretation was that the scoring round options are:

a) score one card, draw one replacement card
b) score two cards, draw one replacement card
c) discard one card, draw two replacement cards

he wanted to:

d) score zero cards, draw zero replacement cards (pass, essentially).

I let him do it, and then again later in the game.

Thoughts? The rules seem to be mostly rigid but was wondering if there had been any clarification from the designer or publisher.

thanks,

-Matt

Your a), b), and c) are according the rules. Item d) isn't.

Page 4 of my rules copy describes item c) after a bolded phrase, Instead of playing cards,...

Play it his way if you want to, but I have no reason to think clarification is necessary.

Your use of the word "rigid" might carry the implication that there is some sort of detriment in not allowing his option, but getting a chance to increase cards-in-hand is surely a benefit. Taking advantage of it is part of my enjoyment of the game.

Agreed. Either he scores 1 or 2 cards, or he discards 1 and draws 2.

No "passing" allowed.
