Yesterday I set up the Chickamauga scenario and really enjoyed playing it with a friend! I took a few photos of the initial set up consisting of my recently painted troops. I thought another example of painted figures, making the battle come to life, might be inspiring to those still seating on the fence about picking up a paint brush...
First, the Union Left Flank under General Thomas the weak Union Center and the Union Right Flank under General McCook.
Directly facing them on the Confederate Left Flank the Conf Center under General Longstreet and the Conf Right Flank under General Polk
If you look carefully, you will see I've used a mix of original Battle Cry figures, some newer figures from the Anniversary Edition (especially the artillery) and some additional figures from other various manufacturers (like HaT, IMEX, A Call to Arms, etc.).
The flags are a mix of original stickers from the game and downloaded/printed flags from the following two primary sources: www.thewargamer.com/battlecry/min/colors.html/ and www.krigsspil.dk - click on the download section on the left column and then select "ACW" from the list of options across the top.
After all the smoke had cleared, the Confederates had won the day in a tightly fought struggle, 6 flags to 5.

Flippin' awesome stuff there, Brent. Your paint job goes waaaay beyond the detailing I tried to achieve with mine; very well done. I like that you also found it is not necessary to overly shade and highlight such small scale figures. That's usually the biggest critique I get when posting images of figures of this scale but to me, anyway, they just look better painted "straight up."
Again... wow!

Your figures look great - what did you use to get such a dull finish?

Hi John,
Thanks for the compliments. After painting the figures with acrylic paints like you find at Wal-Mart, I give them a couple of coats of Testors clear "Dullcote" #1260 flat spray lacquer. It really seems to protect the painted finish very well. You should be able to find it at any good hobby shop.
