Quote: Ystari will release a new edition of the 1985 Spiel des Jahres winner, Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, with the mysteries rewritten to match the style of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This game will likely appear in 2011, with both a regular and a deluxe edition.

Base game or all expansions too?
Rewritten? Why? Are these new cases entirely, or are they traditional cases with some words changed?

Interesting and a little surprising - while I love SHCD, it's hard to see how there's a big enough market for it. Sure, there are the recent Holmes movies to drum up interest, but I just don't think most people want to do that much reading in their games. It's awkward for groups of people to play as well unless you have multiple copies.
And what's this about rewriting the mysteries? I'm not a hardcore Holmes fan and I've only played a couple of the original mysteries so far, but they seemed to be written quite well to me.

Well I've never played the original but this has been on my radar for a while. I certainly plan to buy the reprint. I'm loving the spate of games on the horizon with the solo player in mind (LotR LCG being the other must buy for me).

I have been waiting for a reprint of this game for sooooo long. I think with Z-man doing reasonably well with Tales of the Arabian Nights, that there is a reasonable market for it, with the right marketing.
Also, Sherlock Holmes: Conysulting Detective.

A bit off on a tangant here, but I was disappointed by the Barnes and Noble complete works edition. Its gorgeous, well made, etc... but its filled with spelling errors. To me, thats inexcusable for a major book retailers in store edition of classic works.

For some reason, a similar issue applies with the otherwise excellent MPI complete DVD collection of the Granada series starring Jeremy Brett. It's useful to have the subtitles on in order to follow the nuances of story and dialogue given the terrific writing, but the subtitles that were added have atrocious amounts of misspellings. I cannot watch for more than fifteen seconds without encountering a distracting error - I so wish I were exaggerating. This is such a shame given the literate nature of the series.
This is terrific news regarding a reprint of a game I'd longed to play for a long time. Thank you for posting!

In A Study In Scarlet, a famous line is presented as "Here there is no imagination there is no horror". I understand making a mistake here or there, but that is a famous Holmes quote! Who do they have typing this stuff up? And where is the proof reader!? Give it to some english majors to comb through as an assignment!

Man, I hope they'll reprint the base game AND the expansions.
Also, that they will rework the whole stuff graphically, yet keeping the lovely Sidney Paget illustrations. The map needs special attention in regards to durability.
EDIT: Oh, yeah. I'm dying to see the how the deluxe edition will look like.

I'm thinking that they will be in French (and French alone). In case it matters, I bet they'll be done by a native French speaker...
