Have seen a few references on TMP lately about a new version of the rules.
I have the 2003 edition...can anyone give me a summary of differences between those rules and current version?
For example, this post indicates that movement has changed.
Thanks!

Movement seems to have radically changed, now you move in zones, you can garner a lot from Two Hour Wargames Yahoo! Group and the arena seen on the game's new web site.
Be sure to read the Battle Reports, they show how much has changed. For one thing, each gladiator now has three attributes, Savvy, Speed, and Strength, compared to just REP in the old version.

Having just bought the new rules and having a read of them, they are very different from the previous edition. Maybe they need a new entry in boardgamegeek?

After scan the rules and test some combats I really found that for me 1st edtion is better in terms of dynamics of the combat. I really like the flanking movements and reactions. I dislike in this 2nd edition the pushing techniques of the gladiators and the way that flanking is reproduced in the results of the combat.
I would like to know what others think about this new second edition.

To each his own. I've played both as well, but prefer the new rules.
Rear attacks of a more traditional sort do come into play, but, unless one gladiator is playing very very badly, this will only happen in games with more than two models.
The things I prefer about the new game are what seems to me a much smoother flow of play...to the point where references to the tables are rarely needed after the first few plays, I also prefer the new bonus dice mechanic. The area movement originally felt "wrong," but after a few plays was actually far preferable. I welcomed the long awaited venitio rules, and I feel the new version has a more smoothly playing AI for solo play. The additional stats also make gladiators varied.
There are some things I missed from the old rules...for instance, several gladiator types were missing...but these are very easily re-inserted into the new rules.
