I came into possession of a large set of Vs System cards (looks to be in excess of 5,000) & have been sorting through them. They seem to be mostly Marvel, but some DC as well (though I haven't checked the latter yet). So with that in mind:-
Which sets would be the best ones, either as a starter or for better play? I have almost all cards from the set with abbreviations MOR, MSM, MMK, MAV, MXM, MHG, MTU, MVL, MUN & MEV.
Also, would I be correct in thinking that MVL, MUN & MEV are the most recent sets that wer published?
Thanks,
Matt...

Check out Wikipedia's entry for the game. You'll find all of the sets listed and can tell what the publishing order is as well as which teams are in which set if that influences which ones you'd like to try out first.

MVL, MUN, and MEV are the 3 most recent Marvel sets printed. DCL was printed between MVL and MUN. Out of the ones you listed, I think MXM is the most fun to play with.
As a new player, I would recommend MVL, MTU or MAV to start with though. You can make a lot of good simple decks to start with if you're still learning. MSM and MMK weren't very well developed sets, so I'd recommend holding off of those. Really though, you should just pick whatever comic book teams you're most interested in.
Also, do you have any particular type of deck you like? MHG, MTU, and MXM have some pretty good stall decks you can make from them. MTU, MOR, and MVL have really good rush decks. MAV, MOR, and MVL have good curve decks. If you just want to play with ridiculously powerful cards then MUN and MEV are what you want to start with.
