Several posts indicate that not being able to move is a "RARE" occurance.
We played yesterday (first time for most) and we spent many turns not being able to move.
1. If you move to an occupied tile and then continue to move, you only get the tile behind your final move, correct?
2. If you have tiles in front of you, and you can't move, do you HAVE to turn them in for cards to see if you can get 'lucky'?
3.If you still can't move, but have a bridge, do you HAVE to play it to give you a move or can you hold it back?
4. Also, as the tiles in front of Land get picked up, do we add water there or just move the land closer?
5. What happens if you land on the tile next to Atlantis? There is no tile behind to pick up?
Our scores were 14, 3, 2, and 2... kinda a long game with brain burning for such low scores.
Thanks for answers.
For whatever reason, we had many water tiles near Atlantis after we each sent one man far down the path. I spent 4 turns in a row not being able to move (couldn't draw a green card).

I'm not sure what went wrong but I have never seen a player who wasn't able to move. Here are my answers:
1. If you move to an occupied tile and then continue to move, you only get the tile behind your final move, correct? Yes
2. If you have tiles in front of you, and you can't move, do you HAVE to turn them in for cards to see if you can get 'lucky'? No, it's optional. I see this as a rare situation. What do you mean by "you can't move"?
3.If you still can't move, but have a bridge, do you HAVE to play it to give you a move or can you hold it back? No, it's optional.
4. Also, as the tiles in front of Land get picked up, do we add water there or just move the land closer? It doesn't matter: you count the whole water area as one no matter how many water tiles are in. Note: there is never a water tile next to the start board and end board.
5. What happens if you land on the tile next to Atlantis? There is no tile behind to pick up? It is not a very smart move because it's the only tile to land on where you don't get another tile!

Thanks for the clarification
what happened yesterday.. everyone moved one meeple off atlantis, we created several ponds. Since we only had a few cards and small tiles in front of us, several of us could not move until the lead meeple moved. That meeple got to LAND quickly and the rest of us ended up with many ponds and still had few tiles/cards to pay the costs of the ponds.

It seems hard to imagine how you created several ponds in the beginning. And during preparation, did you give 4 cards to the 1st player, 5 cards to the 2nd and so on?
