This hasn't been playtested (yet), but I know that I'll want to expand the number of players for this game - without buying the expansions.

So this is my idea:

# Players - # Family Members - Draw Limit
2,3,4 - 5 (colour coded) - 5 cards in hand
5 - 4 (one of each colour) - 4 cards in hand
6 - 3 (any colour combos) - 4 cards in hand

Another possibility is that the modifiers and untimely death cards get taken off of dead family members and added into the discard pile (to be reshuffed into the draw deck). It just means you'd have to write down the negative points to keep track. This would allow the hand limit to stay at 5 cards per player, no matter how many players you play with.

Another possibility is that each player starts with 2 family members, and then takes an additional family member when they kill off a first one. And the game ends when all family members are dead (or when each players' first two members are all killed off). Maybe this could work for extending the game to 8 players? I think that this idea would take a lot of playtesting to figure out the nuances.
