Hi! My name's Gabe, and the last time I posted was to say that I had just bought a copy of this game. I paid a lot, even compared with other auctions, because what I was bidding on seemed complete and in good shape. I definitely like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I was just wondering if someone might be able to chime in with their experience, here. I need to get batteries, and I'm assuming the tower will work fine, but I'm setting the game up now, and I've noticed a couple of things.
In the original game, did the pegs not fit very well at all into the the tally cards? The one I tried I had to force pretty mightily, and it came out hard, too, causing just a bit of damage to the card. I won't be doing that again. Are these the original pegs, or did they come from the Battleship game? I'll be pretty ticked off if I find out that this is the case. Also, the peg poked very far out the other side of the card.
Secondly, the Dragon pawn seems to be made of a lighter, different kind of plastic than the Soldier pawns. Is the consistent with original manufacturing? I can imagine that with a game like this, it would be worth it to manufacture replicas. What do you think? I'll be delighted if people's opinions are congruent with my having original pieces. Also my flags don't stand up at all in the board, but I'm guessing this is common.

How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Your best bet is to put a photo of your pegs (maybe a side or 3/4 shot showing how far the pegs go through a board) in your personal gallery and link to it.
The dragon is a different type of plastic than the other pieces, so you're ok there.
I didn't see any good shots of the pegs in the gallery here, but post a photo and I can tell you if they're the originals or not. They should not require a lot of force to go in or out.
Edit: Oh, and welcome to BGG!

Hi there, Rob! Thanks for the welcome! You know, I just broke out the same card and started trying the pegs, and they all slide in nice and easy now. Perhaps that one hole was just a bit stiff, or one peg was a bit of an anomaly. I think I'm good! Like I said, I love to give people the benefit of the doubt. I am feeling a bit testy because I paid so damn much for this game, though. I have insomnia a lot (like right now), and I make impulse buys and rash decisions sometimes. I'm going to pick up some batteries in a while, and I'll do a session report on my first game, if I feel up to it. Thanks very much for the info on the Dragon. That makes me think that the merchant was honest with me.

Hi Gabe,
I bought the game when it came out way back when. Still have it. The pegs are the same as Battleship and they do not fit well in the boards. Luckily my friends at the time understood the need to be gentle with game components. We did not force them all the way in to make it easier to move them from position to position.

You know, Eric, when I asked about the possibility of the pegs being from Battleship, I was being sarcastic, but it makes perfect sense that they would be the same ones-- Milton Bradley! Now, I've got to get some batteries and spin this baby up!!!
