I understand that this game is offensive to some (there was a lively debate in another thread), and is meant as a toungue in cheek joke (whether or not it succeeds is irrelevant to this question), but what's the deal with the tokens?
I'm assuming that they are supposed to have a gay theme, but maybe I'm just not familiar enough with 70s gay culture to get it. Not only that, but some of them are just plain creepy.
For those of you who didn't bother to read the explanation- here are the tokens: jeep, teddy bear, blow drier, leather cap, handcuffs and a stiletto heel.
Ok, so leather cap and handcuffs- sure there's some fun sex stuff or leather imagery. Got it. Stiletto heel, ok- there's a transvestite crowd in the community (although I would say some low amount correlation could be shown, but not causation).
Blow Dryer is kind of a stretch. I guess gay men might be said to take a lot of care with their hair. But then again, so can the Jersey Shore visitors (and judging by my one night out in Westchester, NY, pretty much every one of those dudes as well).
What about Jeeps? I would never have made any sort of connection between jeeps and Gay Monopoly. Never.
And finally that brings us to Teddy Bears. This one is just creepy. Is Gay Monopoly being sponsored by NAMBLA? Seriously??? Teddy Bears? Weird.
I also want to bring up the fact that the theme of this game seems limited to the male half of the equation. Bathhouses instead of Hotels? Maybe I'm naive (ok, I'm definitely naive), but I've never read about or heard of a lesbian bathhouse movement (although that may make an awesome movie). Let's get a little more inclusive folks.
**Note, this is a rather absurd post about a rather absurd game. Don't take things too seriously.**

Google "gay bear" and see what you get.

Gotcha. Don't need to google that one, I just hadn't quite put 2 and 2 together to make 4.
Still- Jeeps?

Apparently, Jeep Wrangler's are gay icons. Who knew? Certainly not me, but googling for Jeep Gay Icon certainly gets some hits.
