The Resistance works great for groups of 10 or under.

Dixit plays up to 12 people; however, don't try this unless you have some creative friends. It doesn't always work with everybody.

Anything more than 12, I'd probably try Wits and Wagers or...

Which like Wits and Wagers works great with teams; however, this is the only one of these games where you don't need to have a copy of the game. We usually just have everybody write down three names of famous people or fictional characters that at least 2/3 of the people in the room know, and throw them in a box. Round One: Say a sentence. Round Two: Say a word. Round Three: Charades.

I've always had great success with Werewolf at larger parties. I really like Werewolf because the amount of players is pretty much limitless so you can include everyone if you have enough decks (you can even use regular deck of cards if needed).

If you just want to get the talking started and not really play a game, you can just have a "white elephant lottery" (my dictionary says a white elephant is a present you want to get rid of or an item that no one really needs).

Each guest must bring something they do not want to take back home (though it should be in an acceptable condition, like a plain ugly but not broken vase). When all guests have arrived, pass a die around for about an hour (a strict time limit is needed). Whenever someone rolls a 6, he or she may exchange his or her present with someone else. Believe it or not, someone will really want that Queen Elisabeth II tea cup or the Swiss souvenir cowbell, so people have a topic for conversation.

What a great idea. Then you have something to take along next time too....

I attended a Thanksgiving day event with a group of people who don't usually game and don't know each other well. We ended up playing several games of Diamant and Villa Paletti. Everyone enjoyed both of them.

Personally, of all the party games out there, I like Outside the Box...it is brand new, so you probably have not heard of it before.

Do you have any connection with the design or manufacture of this game? I ask because it is the only game you have listed & this tends to indicate that.

fwiw, it is generally considered courteous to disclose such an association when promoting a game. Cheers.

Every group of non-gamers to which I've introduced Fluxx has enjoyed it. Often they want to rush out and buy it after learning it.

Conversely, gamers tend to hate it.

Even though it's actually a (very light) strategy game and not a party game, it seems to fit the bill here.

I do recommend the basic Fluxx, however, from before they complicated it with Keepers that give one player special powers, etc.

The Go Hunt card game is a great ice-breaker game. It is a simple pairs matching game, much like go fish, so it is very easy to play. The images on the cards are really what make the game so fun to play, for example "Fat Weiner" is one of 16 differant game cards, and it is a picture of a over weight weiner dog, simple yet very fun. The Go Hunt game can also be used in variants as a drinking game, this is sure to get the party going! The Go Hunt game can be found at the website www.gohuntcards.com this is where you can look at all 16 images and read game reviews.http://www.gohuntcards.com
