After our first play we are a bit confused about the ship velocity.

There are 2 kinds of stern graphics. One with a possible propeller place at the end and one without.

1. Can I only add a propeller at these ships?

On the player shipyard boards in the left upper corner, there are examples for 2 ship types and both do not have that propeller place. So is this a misprint.

2. Can I add additional propellers to a ship?

On the shipyard boards it is said that for each additional propeller I get +1 velocity. Do I need the propeller builder plate for that? And if so, only one player (the plate's owner) can add a second propeller to a ship?

Thanks for your help

You can fit a propeller if the stern shows a place to fit one
You can fit a propeller if you have the propeller builer

Without the propeller builder your ships can only have 0 or 1 propellers.
Without space to fit a propeller your ships can only have 0 or 1 propellers.
With both your ships can have two propellers, and the ships speed is one more than with one.

But in this case I defenitely need the propeller builder for the one propeller?

The question I ran into that the rules do not seem to clarify is, if you have a ship that has no propeller mount, and you get the propeller builder card, you attach a propeller to the ship. Does this mean you get the 4 speed or only the 1 speed? If you look at the score chart it shows a ship with only 1 speed is capable of having 1 point for a propeller. Found this to be confusing. Any clarity would be appreciated.

You have the 4 speed ship if it has a propeller and a chimney. It doen't matter how you attach the propeller.

A ship without chimney is an 1 speed ship. It can have up to two propellers (with mount and propeller builder), which grant +1 speed each.

I was so stuck on that blasted propeller I didn't even think about the smokestacks. Thanks for the clarification.
