Could anyone tell me why it was not done 16 regions?
2 players = 8 regions each
3 players = 5 each region - 1 region eliminated
4 players = 4 each region
5 players = 3 each region - 1 region eliminated
Do not make things easier?
Someone could create a new region and put it next to Avaris ...

Having 4, 5, or 8 regions each would dramatically change the balance of the game. It would require a *LOT* of work, tweaking, and changes. 3 regions each, even with only 3 or 4 players, can have an unbalanced game if the regions end up all farmers or all camel traders, but otherwise the game stays pretty similar.

Yes, changing the length of each Epoch would have a huge effect on the game. Compare buying Dakhla at the first turn of an 8-turn epoch to buying Mendes at the same time, when those farmers are about to pay off for 8 consecutive turns....

Actually, I think that the real reason for having 15 regions rather than 16 was to create assymmetry...different numbers of regions on each side of the Nile, bordering the Nile vs. away from it, Lower Egypt vs. Upper Egypt. A brilliant touch, in my opinion.
