Do you get VP only from donations, or you get VP from completing a building as well? For instance, when somebody put the last resource on a building does he get the price listed for that building? Or he gets the price if he had donated?

No, you get the VP + any bonus of the building only from donations.
If somebody put the last cube without having donated for the building, he will only receive the 3 VPs for the cube added.

You score points by actually building - contributing wood and stone at 3 points each to any particular building project. Additionally when the building is finished, and only then, everybody who donated/sponsored that project gets the bonus. The bonus happens regardless of who finished the building or even whether it was finished when the extra blocks were placed at the end of each set of cards (i.e. after 6, 12 turns, etc).

I don't think there are any other ways to score from buildings and I think it tends to be a risky route to victory points, because you never know if a building will either appear at all, or be finished. I tend to build only when I have the resources and there is not much else to do.

I don't get that. Spending 2 ressources to get 6 VPs is the fastest (and my favorite) way of getting VPs in the game. And why should it be a risky route? Actually its one of the safer routes to score. Because as you already said - you get the VPs instantly, it doesn't matter if its going to be finished or not.

And buildings appear, no matter what, not always all of them, but most of the time there are enough buildings around to score a huge amount of VPs.
