So I traded a few games with a BGG member in Canada.
The package was large, not huge but good size and it weighed just under 10 pounds.
I asked for the cheapest shipping to Canada and it came to $38 for priority mail. I almost crapped my pants. I used to be able to mail things to Canada for almost the same rate as to the US, sometimes cheaper.
I asked if there were any cheaper methods and I was told that all international packages go priority. I believe small packages may be exempt from this.
Anyone know if UPS or FedEx have better international shipping rates?
Hey, MMP! I want Marines, not Finns! RISING SUN NOW! HAAKAKAKAKA PALAAAAAAA LATER!
This ended Math Trades for me, finally. Between the high prices and the pissed off Canadians claiming it was just racism that made me unwilling to ship to them, I chose to stop. The price skyrocketed over the last five or six years.
I don't know if fedex UPS are cheaper for you, but they will incur charges for the BGG member in Canada that USPS will not. It is generally frowned upon to use anything but USPS to send games to Canada from the States.

Just tell them you're not racist--you hate Canadians of all races.

It's equally frowned upon to do anything helpful for Canadians.

I couldn't think of a better word than 'racism' because the charges leveled against me made no sense whatsoever. I guess they imagined me, wrapped in an American flag, burning my games rather than sending them to filthy, filthy Canada.

Pissed off Canucks can be pretty funny though, you have to admit.

hey!! you 2nd class canadians should stop getting pissed off with the true NORTH americans.
but seriously. i use to get stuff shipped from the US from time to time and the cost was very reasonable. i got 6 silver line FF games for about $20 (something) many years back. now that would be a first born child as well. i believe it has something to do with all the extra security stuff has to go though now. either that or price gouging.

Fuel prices are also driving up shipping costs here.
Shipping from Canada to the US also went through the roof over the last few years. I had a few marketplace deals fall through after the buyer saw the shipping price. Some of them were understandable, but when the user balks at 15$ dollars for shipping of Niagara + Expansion (which just happened to a friend of mine) from Montreal to the US, you just have to wonder if expectations are not too high. After all, I can't compete with free-shipping Amazon and online stores!
At least I had no accusation of racism yet. I usually send the link to www.canadapost.ca along with the dimensions and weight of the package to the buyer, so he can see I don't pull numbers out of my behind.
This especially affect the sale of small games. Not really worth it to buy Cronberg for 10$ when you'll have to pay 12$ shipping for it...
Yeah, I don't mind American geeks telling me the trade's not worth it because of high shipping costs, but I *am* fed up with American buyers expecting a miracle.
"Are you saying it'll cost more than $5 for you to ship me Twilight Imperium! Shame on you."
