I played with the warehouses and depots for the first time last night and came across this issue: What happens when a player's depots no longer have any open connections and they no longer have any off the board? Any train cards placed in that warehouse will remain there for the rest of the game because there's no way to ever retrieve them (unless there are no more cards in the deck, but that seems like it would be rare). Can players just dump the cards there so that no one can get them?

We didn't like that idea, so we declared those warehouses to be "dead" and not able to receive train cards any more, but I wondered what others thought.

Also, when a player is out of depots, they will never be able to claim any more cards. Do they still have to keep putting train cards in warehouses for the other players? I guess that's just the price of using up all of their depots.

We were thinking that a good variant might be that when a player's warehouse is dead and they don't have any more depots, they take their warehouse out of the game and stop having to add cards to warehouses from then on.

I see no reason why not. In a 5p game, the warehouses can get emptied if there's a groupthink where half the # of players horde train cards and then start massive amounts of building.

That seems fine. However, while it may happen in theory, AFAIK, it seems like in practice, even if someone puts all train cards into an unreachable warehouse, the game should be close to being over anyways that it oughtta not matter.

Unless you're playing with maps where you have "deadends" like Eginburgh (on the Europe map), then it shouldn't happen anyways.

yes, they still follow the procedure for placing a train card in the depot.

I see no problem with that, although again, I feel it shouldn't come up much anyways.
