I gotta ask; why make this game a module?
It's been a long time since the base game has been published. Why not just add the rules of the base game and make this a sequel instead?
I think theres a lot of us gamers out here that wants a stand alone Korean War air game. I for one would pay the extra cost for a full game on this.

B 29 was published on 2008. 3 years isn't a long time as you 're saying especially when B 17 was published on 1981!
For my standards a B 29 expansion is a logical sequence.

From a marketing point of view 3 years "is" a long time. My point is this: this game would sell more copies if it were a stand alone game.
In 3 years the interest in B-29 has definately eroded, that is a fact. Only fans of B-29 are going to buy a add-on and if that population has decreased so have the potential sales.
By making this a stand alone game, the potentail for rekindled interest is possible and the potentail for increased sales are there as well.
I say this not because I am interested in selling this myself but increased sales helps our hobby overall. A bigger hobby means more subjects that can come to life.

Why wasn't the game a standalone?
This module only depicts a six month period where daylight missions were flown, and where the action was most intense. After that it was night missions only, until the end of the war. There were a few exceptions and a scenario depicting one of those foul ups is ready to go after the module is released.
Here's an excerpt from the intro:
"The time period covered in the module was chosen because it was the most dynamic period of the war for the B-29. Early missions (i.e., before November 1950) for the bomber met with little enemy opposition, with (relatively ineffective) raids against tactical targets. North Korea’s few strategic targets and industries were also quickly disposed of. In November 1950, however, the Chinese Communists were in the war, and the B-29 began facing its first serious opposition with the introduction of large numbers of Soviet MiG-15 jet fighters. It was now a real contest. However, the MiG-15 had been specifically designed to shoot down B-29s and the aging Superfortresses were outmatched by the jet, even with fighter escorts. Aircraft losses would soon restrict most B-29 missions to night-only attacks, largely in a supply-interdiction role."
The point of this module is to show how the plane faired against jets in combat and the reason behind the switch to night missions only. Even with escorts, a player will find that completing 35 missions is going to be tough.
There are enterprising players out there and I am sure someone will come up with a complete game as a variant. The tools will be there.
From a business standpoint, why print the same counters over again, since it is the same plane from the first game? It uses the same damage markers, crew markers, and gun markers. To reprint them would only increase the cost. Only the map and fighter counters are different. It also introduces ace and rookie pilot markers for the Communist forces. The rules and charts have been modified to reflect the use of jets but the core rules of B-29 Superfortress still apply.
I hope this gives you some idea of the reasoning behind what we did.

Will this expansion work well if we have the Khyber Pass version of b-29?

IIRC - That is the only version of B-29 out there. The Legion Wargames "version" is the Khyber Pass version sold by a subsequent company when Khyber Pass ceased operations.

Thanks for the info. The expansion should work, then.

Exactly! The original game you need to make this game work is out of print! the publisher must not expect to make much money on a game where you must own an out of print game. Those interested in this have to hunt down b-29 on E-bay. Or is this some nefarious plot to offload a roomful of b-29s that never sold?

Here's an idea. There are currently two copies of B-29 for sale here on BGG. Instead of complaining about a "nefarious plot", you buy a copy so you can then get the expansion? That is what the rest of us did.

right now, there's one copy of b-29 on sale for $75. so this is effectively a $100 game for any newcomers - actually, i should say for one single newcomer.

How to do you get $100? Unless you are planning to ship the game to some obscure part of the world or you are shipping it with twenty other games, the price of shipping shouldn't be anywhere near $25 so I'm not getting your point.
