I finished the last base game scenario about a month ago. Since then I've been drooling to open the dust-collecting Eastern Front and Winter/Desert Board expansions still in shrink wrap that I bought a year ago. The day had finally arrived.
I read through the new rules and familiarized myself with the new tiles, terrains, etc. and set up Scenario 38. It seemed like it took forever--beautiful unit pieces, more sturdy then the base game.
I was interested to see how the Finnish Ski Troops would perform against me with some of their unique traversing capabilities. As I looked down the line, my troops were ready!
Left Flank Right Flank
In our excitement over the new Winter Board, the new hex tiles, and the new abilities, etc. we got started. Right from the beginning it seemed like I was having a field day taking out the Finnish Ski Troops, thinning out their ranks nearly every turn.
I was up 4 medals to none, before the skiis started to produce any seemingly beneficial aid to my enemy. A few retreat dice and they were gone. Re-located behind terrain, their line of site was blocked from my view. I now had to go on the hunt (following skii tracks????).
In a matter of time I was able to take out another Finnish Ski unit and my first non-ski unit for a 6-4 win.
As I looked back over the scenario it dawned on us... In our excitement we misinterpreted the scenario Briefing and I, playing the Russians, had 6 cards the whole game and the Finns only 4. Doh! It was suppose to be the other way around. Oops. I guess we'll have to replay that one correctly and see how it plays out.
In conclusion, it was still fun to unwrap some new expansions. The stage was set, the battle lines drawn, and I was in command with more of an advantage then intended... this time around, and it felt good.
Keep playing...

Best use of Skiitroopers IMHO is to make sudden ambush on single unguarded target, exploiting numerical superiority due to their awesome range of movement!
