When I saw this was being reprinted as a combination with expansion 3, I began a search far and wide to get the original since I already have expansion 3. Oddly enough, I found it neither far nor wide, but in a local store, looking dusty and forlorn. My heart went out to it and I have now given it a good home. But, I digress...
I just finished putting the stickers on my copy and I noticed that a few did not come out perfectly clean and neat, but have a tiny tag of paper on the corners. I would like this wonderful game to be perfect so in the true war gamer tradition, I would like to clip the corners of the counters. I have seen many posts about clipping wimpy cardboard counters, but advice is sorely lacking for meatier wooden pieces, so I am looking for advice from my peers.
Has anyone got any experience to share? I'm thinking a band saw would be best, but alas, I haven't such a tool. Does Home Depot rent out band saws? I suppose I would also need to rent a truck to bring the band saw home. Sounds difficult and awkward.
I do have a jigsaw, but am concerned about cutting off the ends of my fingers while holding the piece, and the saw is rather large, especially for the foot units. Is there an on line source for tiny hobby jig saws? Can anyone point me to a source for chainmail gloves like butchers use to protect my digits?
I considered sandpaper, but it would take to long. Perhaps a rasp would do the job though. I could secure the piece in a vice (padded to avoid damage to the counter) and file away the corners one by one, all the while imagining that I am an ancient blacksmith honing the edge on a warrior's sword. Perfection is the order of the day so I am concerned that each piece would not be exact and am looking for suggestions on perfection.
All advice will be considered as I do not want to cut corners on this job of cutting corners.

I think you'll find that with a few plays, the 'burrs' rub off on their own. Think of them as the little umbilical cord that falls off eventually on a baby.

A baby! What a wonderful image. I will hug him and feed him and call him George!
Thanks!

Try an electric belt sander... one that can be mounted with a flat perpendicular surface.

Excellent idea. The chain mail gloves would still be required, but applying more power to the job will get it done quickly!

I don't understand-- you mention a little tag of PAPER that isn't perfect, but everything else sounds like it's the wooden blocks that you want to work on.
Note that the color is just painted on the blocks, so if you go to cutting or sanding, you may end up with imperfections larger than some small wooden burr.
But the allusion to "counter clipping" sounds like you want to take off the corners of all the blocks... Is that it?
I think sduke's 'leave it alone and they'll wear off' sounds pretty good at that point.

Ahh! More good advice! I didn't think about the colour of the wood under the paint. I'll have to email GMT to see if they have any small bottles of touch up paint for the corners. I wonder if they have bulk discounts since I'll have a lot of cut corners to repaint.
This is why The Geek is so good. More brains on the problem.

The statement below is false.
The statement above is correct.

I think in order to stay with the theme, you really shouldn't use anything else than a Roman Gladius. Even other swords won't do - the Gladius has just the right length, too, you don't sacrifice control for heft. And you will need control for those corners.
(I did straighten some of the stickers as well myself by the way, some with finger nails and others with a hobby knife. I didn't go as far as you plan to, all of my wooden blocks are still horribly unclipped...)
Oh, can you post a video of the process once you've decided on a method? I'd be very interested.

That's a great idea. I wonder if I can get a Gladius from geek-bay?!?...
Maybe GMT will start a P500 list for "Commands & Colors, Gladius Expansion". Don't like the cards in your hand, use the Gladius to 'negotiate' with your opponent! Hmm... Will I be able to get a Gladius through customs, or will I have to wait for a local distributor.
Good answers lead to more questions!

Yes, it is a joke. Some got it, some didn't. I thought it was very funny, but then I think I'm hilarious and should be on TV.
Responding to old threads is OK since the subscribe option lets me know if a new post comes up.
