Does the Monk's ability to cancel a Mystery card count even durring Mystery Phase. I did not notice anyhing that indicated otherwise, but when using this durring a coop game it really screwed over the villian, it never had a chance.

Designer Jason Hill answered this question a while back. See question 16 at this link.

His answer was that "Once Per Turn" means once during each Hero's Turn and once during the Mystery Phase. So, basically, the answer to your question is yes.

I haven't used Brother Marcus yet, but I've read that he can be a little on the powerful side. If you think it's too much, maybe try changing his activation roll to a 4+, instead of 3+. Or maybe raise the price to 3 Investigation.

I am playing this game solo all the time since I got it, quite recently, and although have yet to work my way through the heroes and villains, Brother Marcus stands out as creating an entirely different gaming experience than any other hero I tried so far.

With a bit of luck, you can cancel lots of Remains In Play cards, which reduces the number of additional rules to keep track of and in some cases makes the game pace very leisurely. In the solo game I played with him, I happened to get a lot of investigation and had some lucky rolls, so I ended up walking about, doing what I liked, taking my time, then finding the villain and beating him in one show-down, with lots of investigation left to retry had I failed.

I think it is very valid to state that this hero is one of the most powerful ones, and if you want the game to pressure you, you may indeed want to find a way to make him less powerful. If you like to be a bit more in control, this may be THE hero for you.
