I'm always on the hunt for some new board games to add to my collection and recently this one has caught my eye. It seems to hold well in the ranking, but I haven't seen a whole lot of overwhelmingly positive reviews.
I have over 30 board games in my collection so far, but no shipping games, was wondering if I could get some opinions and maybe some recommendations in games similar to this one.

AWESOME.
This type of game appeals to my "diverse means to an end" gamestreak.

Endeavor is definitely worth your time. It is an exceptional game.

Big favorite here. A medium weight euro with interesting mechanics.
Area control, resource selection and even a wee bit of warfare possible.
It plays up to five and moves snappily along to its conclusion, usually within an hour.
Also the word I've heard is it's not currently scheduled for a reprint. So copies may get scarce.

When compared to games like Age of Industry, Brass, and Caylus what would you say?

Perhaps, but Hansa T is better.

Great game - one of my favorites. Easy to learn, straightforward but fairly deep for all that. Also, IMO, superb graphic design and art.

This is a good game, however it is not a "shipping game". It is more along the lines of a worker placement/area control game.
That being said, it is definitely worth picking up.

I find this game heavily overrated. theme paste-on is rubbish (but that's not really a deal breaker). I find it disturbing that this is a game that pretends to have lots of strategy and tactics, that offers a lot of depth and gameplay but also offers the possibility to sit through an entire game without even having the slightest chance to win, even though you made no wrong moves (or maybe this is where I am wrong
).

I find Endeavor heavily underrated. I find the exploration / slavery theme somewhat abstracted but definitely not "pasted on". I enjoy this game of perfect information and zero luck (except for the luck of the decisions taken by other players). I also enjoy the multiple ways to victory. To me Endeavor is best with four or five players. For a good three player game with a similar "feel" to Endeavor I would join others in recommending Hansa Teutonica.
