Since a couple of us have owned this game for a while, we long ago wondered whether it would be possible to combine two sets to play a game with more than 5 players (under the assumption that 1 set wouldn't support 6 players.)
We ended up trying it a year or so ago, and it didn't work out so well. Oh, it seemed to be perfectly functional, but the real problem was keeping track of all the offers and trading potentials available. It's one thing to remember 5 different offers during the bidding phase, another thing entirely to try and keep in the back of your mind what 5 other players want or have. That kind of mental juggling seems to have an upper bound, and based on one 6-player game, I'd say any more than 5 players exceeds that limit.
