Ok so I'm player 1 in a 2 player game, I have plenty of sanity, I've revealed the last big monster and I've blocked all of the usual portals and I have the correct three items.

I play my tunnel card, loose a sanity point and travel to rlyeh...

The english rules don't really specify the next bit...

What's next....
1) Woo we've now won. Job Done
2) A 2nd player needs to travel to the Miskatonic University and simply not get killed by any shadow/monsters that are there - they can then end their turn by 'automatically' closing the gate .....
3) A second player needs to travel to the Miskatonic University and survive ii lomg enough to play another 'rune' that they should have prepared in their hand in advance...

or something else?

Thanks!

1. Player 1 gets to R'lyeh via secret passage, losing a sanity, with the required items on the Great Old One (GOO). No die is rolled; the GOO effect turns off. Player 1 may stay in R'lyeh for later turns, but will lose a sanity point during the travel phase of the turn until you leave (turning on the GOO effect) or go insane.
2. Player 2 travels to Miskatonic University and plays any artifact card while Player 1 is in R'lyeh. Gameplay has now ended.
3. The portal tiles are now flipped. If all gates have been sealed, and all non-gates have NOT been sealed, the players have won.

I hope that helps!

I once got within player 2's action before a win. That has been the closest we have ever gotten. Love the game but I swear there were almost real tears that night. The game is currently on 'sabbatical' while we recover from the trauma of it.

I'm not arguing with your point, and I agree that it makes sense but....

The rules don't actually specifiy that you need to place an artifact down at the university. > The ending is a little grey in the english rules.

Thanks

The unofficial translation repeatedly says things like "after the portal at MU has been closed...", and the only way to close a portal is to place an artifact.

I would assume the official wording is much the same.
