We'd always enjoyed a 3-player "Battle" utilizing the entire PRESTAGS components, with our OWN 'configuration' for this! We 'bought' our ARMY, then arrayed one HALF against the LEFT and RIGHT 'opponent'. With *Secret Deployment* -having an album cover set upright betwixt us- then it became quite interesting ONCE all were then revealed. Someone would pick the map from theirs-or another suitable type-with another player selecting where on that they wished to "Set Up" initially, and the 3rd determining other 'characteristics' on stacking and the like.
cool

It fits your description perfectly! And yes, it's a war game.. with an animal theme on it.

I guess that depends on what you consider heavy. To me, DS is extremely heavy on the brain. Which is one of the things the OP was asking for.

Adam,I was joking(kinda).DS definitely isn't a light game in any way.But the funny thing is that I never felt exhausted and burned out after a game of Dominant Species (That's how I measure the heaviness of games ).Through the Ages on the other hand....

I'd put pretty much the entire 18xx family at the top of the list. That's why I like them, but my brain is fried at the end of a session. Part of it is I haven't gone far enough up the experience curve yet.

I can't really judge Magic Realm, but I can tell you I've never made it all the way through the rulebook.

Anything played by three Americans at a game conference challenges the record for heaviest: I'm guessing about 700 lbs. minimum
