In the fase where you can remove tokens from the other player or (incase of a 1 value card) remove one of yourself.
The rules say the 3rd cartouche decides where you may remove the tokens from other players. But when you play a value 1 card and you need to remove a token from yourself, is that also decided by the card played at the 3rd cartouche?
So incase you play a value 1 card on the 2nd and the 3rd cartouche and you have NO tokens in the first cartouche, (only in higher cartouches) do you need to remove a token from a higher cartouche? Or are you safe?

Yes it is.

You have to remove a token regardless. If there are none in the required temple, you need to remove from a higher temple.

It was pretty confusing in the rules. And it looked like a tactical move: "playing a 1 value card on your 3th cartouche and not having to remove the token from your first field cus there aren't any of your tokens in it!"devil

But unfortunatly now im not allowed haha.

Thanx for the answer!

I only played my first 3 games today but the guy I played with is a long term player and he plays it they way Inkydinky explains it - the third cartouche card governs where you remove a token so if you play a "1" against the third cartouch then the token can only come off the first area and you do not lose a token if there are none in the first area - so yes a very tactical move. If you played a "3" against the third cartouche then you would be obliged to remove one token from somewhere in the first 3 areas of the board and could not just say you will use an area that does not have any tokens.

Thats how we played anyway it and it seems more tactical that way.
