Apologies if this has already been answered but I couldn't find it.
When setting up the investigator decks I feel that the expansion cards should all be on top of the base game cards. However this isn't what the rules say. In the King in Yellow
Set Up
Set up the Arkham Horror base board game as normal, performing the following extra steps during Step 6: Separate Decks.
6a. Shuffle the base game Investigator cards separately, and place them in to their respective decks. Then shuffle the new Spells, Common Items and Unique Items, into three separate decks, and place them on top of the original decks.
Then proceed with Step 7: Receive Fixed Possessions
However step 8 is Shuffle Investigator Decks. Based on this order of set up I don't know why 6a tells you to separate the investigator decks. I think the idea is that you keep the decks separate but following the rules appears to mean they get shuffled together. Any ideas?

There are two ways to play this expansion: the Touring version which has you place the KiY cards ON TOP of the base game cards. This gives the game a "KiY" feel. The cards you should pick first are those that are pertinent to the King in Yellow narrative.
The permanent edition has you shuffle the cards into the decks. That way, the KiY sort of "permeates" the game but isn't the central focus.
Have fun, I think KiY is one of my favorites.

The rules don't actually allow for the investigator cards to end up on top of their decks. Is this intentional?

Hi Phil,
1st, get rid of the rule books, they're more confusing than anything else.
2nd, download UniversalHead excellent rule summary ( http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/22286/universal-head-arkha...) and print it.
3rd, to answer your question, to experiment the touring setting, you shouldn't shuffle the decks, or shuffle them then put the KIY cards on top.

re-reading the rule book, IMHO they should have put step 8 right after step 6:
6. SEPARATE DECKS 8. SHUFFLE INVESTIGATOR DECKS step 6a step 6b step 6c 7. RECEIVE FIXED POSSESSIONS 9. RECEIVE RANDOM POSSESSIONS
But as I've said, get UniversalHead rulebook, it is much clearer. as an exemple, here's how he explain the touring performance:
Play Styles Touring Performance Add Magical Effect, and Act cards. Add KiY Spell, Common Item, Unique Item, Gate, Mythos and Location cards on top of their respective AH decks. When drawing from the Location decks, do not shuffle beforehand, but take the top card from the appproriate deck. Shuffle only when the entire deck has been gone through.

Thanks guys. I can usually get on alright but, as you all know, the rules for this game are unclear. The FAQ cleared up the based game but not for the expansions as far as I can see. Has what you guys have described been confirmed by FFG or is it effectively a "house rule"?

I may be getting to finicky with the wording, but wouldn't it make more sense to take the Investigators FIXED POSSESSIONS out after Separating the decks, before adding the KiY cards? Otherwise you'll have to separate the KiY cards and reshuffle the deck to take the RANDOM POSSESSIONS.
Like this:
6. SEPARATE DECKS 7. RECEIVE FIXED POSSESSIONS 8. SHUFFLE INVESTIGATOR DECKS step 6a step 6b step 6c 9. RECEIVE RANDOM POSSESSIONS
