Hey all,

Out of curiosity, I decided to follow up on Mall of Horror. I asked about the reprint as well, which Stefan didn't mention, so perhaps it's no longer happening. However, he did announce this interesting little tidbit:

"Hello,
We will bring a prototype to GENCON of Mall of Horror 2 we are working on the balance of the game at the moment.

Regards,
Stefan"

Sound promising! Here's hoping the sequel remains faithful to its predecessor.

Cheers,

AR

Hmm...curious about this one. I am a huge fan of Mall of Horror and everyone I have ever introduced it to has loved it. I find it to have a great and innovative design. To that extent I would be interested in anything that the game's designers put forth in the future...but a sequel? I have really begun to think that some games are just right on their own and that expansions/sequels are just not what I am looking for.On this one, I think I personally would simply prefer a reprint to put an under-rated game back out in the public consciousness. I will take a look at MoHII but an MoH reprint would be a must buy...my copy is showing some wear.

Perhaps it's like a DAK vs DAK2? Basically the same game, but so much prettier and cooler that they simply had to give it a new name?

I quite agree with you True, I've played this one with friends and am itching to add this to my collection, but I don't know if a sequel is entirely necessary. Ideally, the sequel will simply be identical to the original with some tweeks and a few new interesting additions, rather than an entirely new version.

Mind you, there is every chance they could prove us wrong, so I think it's best to wait and see, it's only another month or so after all.

hello !

(excuse my poor english ....)
firstly, thanks for enjoying MOH. And about MOH2 ... The editor came to me after the release of MOH and ask me for an expansion. It was hard for me to find some news ideas for MOH, because I've tried to keep the game "light" and focused around players' negotiations.

But I have found some news things (power, card, place) that doesn't change the game but add some new stuff. When it was ready, the game was sold out, and instead of a reprint, the editor think of MOH2 ! So I have modified the expansion ... But it was not really a good number 2.

So I tried to keep only what characterize the game : negotiation, zombie arrival and votes. I have changed the story, and a bunch of elements. I was pretty good, but the editor found that it wasn't a real number 2, just a big expansion ...

So I rework it from the beginning, adding some new mechanics and new stuffs. But all new things must emphasize one thing : you must betray your friends to win !
The first prototype was ready, with a few new thing and some basics (vote, movement and zombies arrival) ! I've tried to remove some annoying things (kingmaking, stacking pawns into parking lot, too many vote) and add new funny things. And the editor like it
But during 1 year and a half, they have challenged me to improve it again and again. I hope you like it !!

Don't hesitate to tell me your feelings after gen con!
Nico

Hi all, cross-posting this to here as if you're like me and couldn't make it to Gencon, you wanted to hear what the demo was like. Sadly, it never ended up making it to Gencon. It sounds as though they hadn't managed to get the prototype produced yet, from what I can gather from their response. On a positive note, their response time through their Facebook group is seriously fast!

Hi guys, I had been advised that a prototype for Mall of Horror 2 would be demoed at Gencon but haven't heard anything post convention. Did this make an appearance?

I suspect publishing an expansion for a game that is OOP is not high on any publishers list.

Perhaps if they produce a new print run of the game with the expansion included...

Well, it's just an idea.

That sounds like what they're doing. If you read the post above, it said that they contacted him about designing an expansion, and that by the time he had something to show them, the game was sold out and rather than just do a new printing, it sounds like they wanted the game redone to include everything in the proposed expansion, as well as "pardon the pun" fleshing out the base game a bit more.
