Refusing to deal with The Lurker had catastrophic consequences for Gloria recently. The Master of Magic gave unexpected and unwanted Power to both she and Akachi. Moments later, in Arkham Asylum with two clues, no money and long-term treatment facing her, Humanity Lost resulted in her destruction. As deputy of Arkham, having been responsible for the ability of investigators to recognize previously seen information as real clues (passed her personal story) and enough information to seal one of the still-open gates, Akachi was sacrosanct.

Akachi's attaining the status of deputy casued me to start thinking of Rita's being ignored and all but laughed out of the Police Station. Akachi had plenty of evidence to show them and telling the story of how she obtained the pieces of sealed gates might have forced the Police Commissioner to hire her.

That's not to say she was accepted by her fellow officers. Not only could her race have been working against her, but her sex and the fact that she was a foreigner.

It could also be that the real reason that Rita was shunned was the officers might have had a stereotype concerning the sexual orientation of a female athlete in that era. That hair style couldn't have much helped either.

(Where's the tongue-in-cheek emoticon)? (My j doesn't look quite right).

I particularly like the first story. I try not to have Power lying around, since it's usually bad news. The Lurker completely circumvented what I was attempting to do by devising its own strategy. These two Reckoning cards came back-to-back.
