My friend and I really enjoy this game. Are there any games similar to this? I know it's a broad criteria, but anything pop into your mind immediately?

Dynasties is the first one that springs to mind, but Aton supplanted it for me.

I have dynasties too. ...and feel very much the same.
I wish there was a game like Aton with a bigger rule set. Maybe some movement.
I'm wondering if Carolus Magnus is the answer?

Carolus Magnus works great with 3.
Not so sure about 2 though...

Majority games for two are hard to come by, and Aton solves the inherent issues by offering various paths and methods of comparison. For the straight majority aspect I suggest Mykerinos and Louis XIV; for the tug of war-feel King of Siam might not be such bad suggestion; and based on what I understand of the rules I gather that Macht und Ohnmacht (Power and Weakness) might not be that bad a suggestion too. But none of these titles capture the exact feel of Aton.

Well I'm going down the right path then, Louis xiv, mykerinos, and king of siam are on my wishlist. Is mykerinos the best between it and pergamon and the like? Also, I've heard wonderful things about King of Siam, I think that might be winning among the games you named.

I've played dynasties once and enjoyed it...but not as much as Aton...and my GF who disliked Aton also disliked Dynasties as well so I guess there are two votes to say they are similar.
Power & Weakness is my next 2P area majority game I'm eyeballing but i haven't played it myself so I don't know if its similar, but it sure seems interesting.

I don't consider XIV (dislike), Mykerinos (like), or Siam (really like) to be in the same ballpark really, but the latter two can be tried for free on play-by-web sites before you come to your own conclusion.

I can't comment on Pergamon, I'm afraid. As for the games I mentioned (with the exception of Macht & Ohnmacht, which I only know from a rule book, and that vaguely) it depends on what you look for in a game. Louis XIV is a very ... abundant, I guess... title. There's lots to do, there are many different areas on the playing area which all do different things, the majority conditions change all the time, and there are cards with lots of extras to help you. I think of it as the rock'n'roller amongst majority titles. King of Siam on the other hand is thoughtful, slow, psychological even: you only have 8 actions and therefore you have to make each one count. It is surprising how tough so little choice can be: even simply beginning is already difficult. Mykerinos is in between these two titles. It shares a certain soberness with King of Siam, but uses special character powers which are obtained during the game too. And its majority mechanism works very well for just 2 players; King of Siam's is very good too; Louis' needs this official variant which is different from the one in the printed booklet. (Plus you need to alter the way the shields markers pay out, but that too is an official author-endorsed change.)
You can't go wrong with any of these titles, so it's really your call.

Hmmm. I disagree with this disagreement. I think all of these have enough in common to be enjoyed. The point maybe is that no game will be exactly the same, otherwise... well. Of course, if you can think a little more broadly than specific mechanics, it might be easier to make more recommendations.

Just to chuck in my two cents, as someone who's played Pergamon (though not any of these others mentioned). Pergamon is a very different game, but it plays brilliantly with two, and has a similar depth. It's much more thematic than Aton, and I guess more linear (in that you're choices are narrower, but not in a bad way). I bought Aton more recently, and I like the very easy set-up time; Pergamon is more fiddly in that regard, though we're only talking minutes, not tens of minutes. It's got more bits, but it is a very great, lean game.
I love both games, and I think if you like Aton, you'll like Pergamon. Coincidentally (or not), both are by designers of two of my favourite filler card games: For Sale and No Thanks.
