The B-29 Easy Does It flew 2 missions during WWII against Japan. The first was uneventful, the 2nd ended in flames.

Roster:
Pilot: CPT J.Veasey
CoPilot: 1stLT C.Frankhouser
Bombadier: 1stLt J.Unsworth
Navigator: 2ndLT C.Kensinger
Flight Engineer: M/SGT G.Culwell
Radio Op: SGT C.Stair
CFC: S/SGT L.Katzer
Gunner: SGT K.Bigger
Gunner: SGT C.Gigliotti
Radar: S/SGT L.Kite
Tail Gunner: S/SGT M.Pen

Mission 1.
For their first mission, Pilot Jamie Veasy and CoPilot Clinton Frankhouser got the B-29 Easy Does It out of the Marianas around 10am. They were bound for an aircraft factory in Nagoya. Nagoya is about 160 miles to the West/Southwest of Tokyo.

Easy Does It made it to formation assembly without incident and got in to position in the middle of the formation. Within an hour or so, the group was disrupted by large storms. Though some planes suffered damage, every one was able to rejoin the formation and continue on to Nagoya in clear weather.

About 20 minutes out from the IP, the weather over Japan worsened. Bombadier Javier Unsworth feared the mission might "be a waste if the weather got any worse." *Damage assessment determined the Mitsubishi factory suffered virtually no damage from this mission.

The Japanese defenders did not manage to get any fighters airborne, however they did pepper the sky below with light flak.

Returning to the Marianas, the sun set as Easy Does It crossed over Iwo Jima. As during the outbound leg, no fighters were seen on the inbound leg over Iwo Jima.

All 11 men of the Easy Does It were grateful for an uneventful first mission. Most claimed they were eager for their next.

Mission 2.
For their 2nd mission, the men of Easy Does It were tasked with hitting another aircraft factory, this time in Akashi which is just West of Osaka. Intelligence indicated Akashi was lightly defended with flak and fighter resistance would be light.

Around noon, as Easy Does It was crossing over Iwo Jima, the Japanese sent several fighters up to engage the group. A single Japanese Ki-44 Shoki, codenamed Tojo, attempted a head on pass against the Easy Does It. The Ki-44 was engaged and destroyed by the forward turrets according to mission debriefs from other bomber crews in the group.

As the group made landfall some 35-50 miles from their target Akashi late in the afternoon, several Japanese N1K-J Shidens, codenamed George, were waiting for them. The George was a formidable aircraft and all B-29 crewmen would have known to take this threat seriously. The enemy planes stayed out of reach until the group began its final turn towards their target. The Japanese attacked from below and behind.

The weather was clear and there was little to no flak. B-29 crew from the Easter Bunny reported seeing at least 3 Easy Does It turrets open up on an approaching George with no effect. The George closed and opened fire from very short range. It scored hits on the waist section and tail. Return fire from the tail gun ceased. Damage to the tail section was plainly seen from the Easter Bunny.

The George continued to press its attack until it vanished beneath Easy Does It. Easter Bunny Waist Gunners then saw Easy Does it disappear in a large black cloud. Several B-29s in the group report being rocked by the explosion and suffering damage from the debris. The George fighter was also gone.

Intentional or not, the evidence suggests the George fighter collided with the B-29 near the bomb bay and caused an explosion which vaporized both planes. The crew of Easy Does It and the Japanese fighter pilot were all killed instantly.

xxxxxxxx

This was my first B-29 attempt after quite a bit of time not playing...It went just like I remembered it. Brutal when things go wrong. I was all worried when the George got in some hits on the rudder and tail gunner's oxygen that I'd have to drop out of formation and abort before the bomb run. Then the sob rammed the bomb bay. Instant death for all shake
