I noticed says index finger

Crokinole allows index or middle finger.

Why the index finger choice?

In almost every finger-flicking game I use my index finger over 90% of the time.

Only certain shots would/could force me to use the middle...

WCC rules do not specify a type of finger.

WCC 2011 Rules wrote:

4.1.2. Disks are to be shot only with a finger unless participating in a game designated for use of cues. No finger guards may be used.
During a shot only the shooting hand and associated arm can come into contact with the board or table.
