Playing tonight, I played a card that switched my ship with my brother's ship, which put him on a planet. He was carrying one 2 megagalax value cargo card that did not belong to that planet, but that planet had a set of three cards on it available for pickup. He wanted to ditch the card he had and pickup the three cards. We could find nothing in the rules that said anything about discarding cargo, so we decided he had to keep the card. Is this correct?

Common sense would seem to dictate that a captain could abandon goods anywhere, although you could make an argument that the captain is bound by a contract to deliver a good as soon as possible once it is picked up and not leave it somewhere else.

Were we correct? Magic Eight Ball says: m8b -> Most likely -> Most likely, although I don't usually trust the Magic Eight Ball

Regardless, it's a fun game.

I'm pretty confident you can't dump cargo, just because you found something better. You want to get a bounty hunter after you?

Ruleswise, the game is pretty clear that each cargo hold is sealed, and can only be opened at the destination. Which to me says you don't have the key.

"If the spaceship of a player is on a planet he may unload one of his “Container”s that hold goods cards showing this planet as the destination."

So I should say not.

Hi,

short answer: You were correct (No - you cannot dump cards)

Long answer:

You know - all those spaceship captains promising safe delivery - and wowwww - off they go as soon as they see a more profitable cargo. Dumping my precious wares into space.

So a practice was introduced to seal the containers shut in a way that they can only be opened by a special code ... that is only known at the destination.

Have fun in space!
Heinrich

Excellent, thanks for the confirmation! It's a great game and we're enjoying it. Looks like the Magic Eight Ball was correct!
