So I've waited with baited breath for a good long while for Arctic Scavengers to be released. The latest promise was
"this summer."
Nothing from Origins... Nothing from Essen... Nothing from Gencon...
Summer is almost done. I'm ready to go shop your competitors now:Rune Age or Resident Evil Deck Building Game.
September, the beginning of fall, get it out or I'm out.

Yes, because Jay at RGG is sitting on a crate of the games in his warehouse thinking: "I bet we would sell more of this game by keeping it in the warehouse rather than selling it."

Not sure I follow the logic here. You want this game so much that RGG better get the game out by fall or you will no longer want it?

Next time at the grocery, try the Cheerios... Marketing studies have found that the Grumpios result in a longer days and snippy postings.
Seriously, the production problems that most of the game publishers have been having should be well-known by now. There are more games being published than ever, but the number of good-quality printers hasn't increased. Publishers have to prioritize what gets put into the queues at the printers they use. If I were Jay, my top priorities would be Dominion expansions, the top games from the most recent Nuremberg and the most promising of the upcoming Essen titles.
It's frustrating to see games slip and slide back on the the release schedule, but it happens. I get far more irritated by titles that keep getting pushed back on the schedule and eventually being cancelled. That's happened to several titles I was looking for. Just let it go - that's what I do.

Agree. Except for the part about more Dominion Expansions. Dominion has been milked dry. For nearly two years, it was the first and most popular DBG on the market and except for Thunderstone, the only DBG. Now the que is loaded with DBGs coming down the line: Core Worlds, Eminent Domain, Nightfall and Resident Evil Expansions, Rune Age just out. Dominion had a lot of expansions very fast (causing people comment it was like a CCG) so that RGG could get as much cash as possible before the inevitable happened. And it has happened.
I doubt we'll see any Dominion expansions for awhile.

I remember long ago (3 years or so) that Rio Grande used to put out, more or less monthly newsletters to keep us informed and what they were doing. Now, sadly, they only seem to come out about twice a year.

Uhh, FFG just released Blood Bowl Team Manager much earlier than anyone was anticipating. Despite customs problems that delayed the first LOTR chapter pack, the second one was out like a week after. So, uh, yeah, not sure what you are talking about there...

Jay put these out on a regular basis until he was massively jumped on by folks here on BGG. It was when a couple of titles had had lengthy delays (I think one was an expansion for Race for the Galaxy, but it could have very easily have been a Dominion expansion (or both)). After repeated slamming, he decided to discontinue the regular newsletters and only release them when he had solid announcements to make. He said, not without some justification, that the regular newsletters had raised expectations where there was no certainty. Sadly, it seems like even announcements backed by solid information have gone away - he only had a couple of them last year.

Have you tried Arctic Scavengers? I played the original version, and while it's not horrible, there are better deckbuilding games out there. Like, all of them. It just seems to me that the game was designed so early in the "deckbuilding craze" that tons of innovation has happened since then, and you're much better off going with more recent designs (that have the added advantage of actually being in print).

I can't speak to Rune Age, but I thought Resident Evil was simply awful. If you're looking to shop competitors, make sure it's something you'd actually want to have. And certainly try out Resident Evil before putting any of your likely hard-earned money towards it.

Talked to Kyle last week (Funny story - I "butt-dialed" him and ended up with an update!) and he said that the box and card art are complete and they're working on the die-cuts for the junkyard and the contested resource. There's also some card icons for the expansions now.
I don't remember anything else, but personally I'm not expecting it before the end of the year because apparently it still hasn't gone to the printers.
Feet have been dragged and, while I still look forward to the new version because I think Kyle did a good job with it, the deck-building ship appears to have sailed.

Yep, that's the point.
In 2009, AS could have been a nice alternative to Dominion.
In 2011 (2012...) there are LOTS of new games, most of them better refined the "Dominion" concept.
Of course, I'm basing this considerations just on the original rules of AS. Maybe the new edition contains an updated set of rules and cards?
Again, I think that the author sold the rights to the wrong publisher. And not because Rio Grande is a bad one, absolutely not. It is just because... they already publish Dominion.
