Here´s a question about the option to scrap any number of cards and redraw the same amount.

Is this instead of playing cards into the machine at all?
Or (like the rules say) instead of playing a card?

The rules say you may play one card into your machine... and you have the option to play additional cards into the machine.

So when following the rules word by word I may:
- Play my first card
- Instead of playing my second card scrap cards from my hand and r-edraw
- play another card
- Scrap and red-raw again instead of playing another card.

I´m not sure if this is the intention.

We always played: INstead of playing any cards at all in you turn scrap and re-draw...

Any ideas?

Thanks,

My understanding was that you get one card played normally, and that for every additional card you want to play, you scrap a card from your hand to do so.

Thus, if I have 5 cards in my hand, the first plays free, then I can discard card #2 to play card #3, then discard card #4 to play card #5.

OR

You may discard any number of cards from your hand and draw an equal number to replace them. You do this instead of playing a card into your contraption.

You cannot both play cards into your contraption, or others' contraptions, AND take the bulk discard/replenish option in the same turn.

This is was I thought, too.
Until I read the rules again.
They say:"Instead of playing a card..."
Since I can play multiple cards in my turn it sounds like I can use the discard/replenish option instead of playing one of the mutlicple cards I can play in my turn.
This would allow playing cards and discard/replenish in the same turn.

If the wording would be: "Instead of playing cards in your turn..." it would be eighter playing cards or scrap.

I still think the original intentionn is what you wrote above.
But the wording here is not clear.

Thanks,

Yeah, we got our local Press Ganger (demo rep) to get clarification from Privateer Press for us.

The "Instead of Playing a Card..." bit was meant to reflect the fact that before you decided to play a card or not, you need to decide whether you even have a card worth playing. If not, you can discard and redraw, but that replaces playing any card that turn, not just one of the many cards you could play, assuming the discard cost was paid.
