Maybe I'm missing something, but there doesn't appear to be a requirement when creating the course that the lanes are the same colors throughout the course. The outside lanes can be purple or grey depending on how the tiles are joined together.
If this is the case, suppose I am in the last purple space of one tile and the next space is grey, can I play a high number purple card, move my ostrich across the next tile to the purple lane and still claim the bonus movement?

Just had a reply from Fragor Games;
The tiles have to be joined with the same colours connecting.
We did toy with the idea of being able to join up colours differently, but it just throws up to many picky rules
