Just a quick look the two games (Dog and Pegs and Jokers) are very similar:

1. Parcheesi type game
2. Team competition
3. Pawn movement based on cards
4. Special cards move pawns in unique ways

The special cards are different between the two games, but it is unclear to me on just reading the rules if one is superior to the other. A more significant difference may be that Dog is for 2-6 whereas Pegs & Jokers is for 2-8.

Pegs and Jokers is mainly available in North America through PnP or ordering beautiful handmade sets.
Dog is apparently not widely available in North America.

Dog is my second favorite game, but if you're planning on trying it with eight players, you better pack a lunch.

Well, everyone I know who plays this is retired, so maybe they've got the time for an 8-player.
