this is neither a review nor a session report (though it has elements of both) so I'm dumping it here in "General"

Last night we played with Miskatonic for the first time. Here's our setup

Boards: Base + Dunwich
Herald: Dunwich Horror
Ancient One: Yog-Sothoth

Additional Components:
Dunwich: full expansion
Lurker: Gates, Relationships
Innsmouth: Personal Stories
Miskatonic: all Ancient One and Investigator cards for Arkham + Dunwich, plus Miskatonic U Institution.

The big thing we noticed was just how active the Dunwich board was. I've rarely had more than a single Gate open at a time in Dunwich and never had the Horror awaken. This time we had two Gates open and multiple Monter Surges triggered by Gates in Dunwich. It was like a totally new game! It seemed to be the new "dual Gate" Mythos that were having the effect.

For the first time in ages we didn't experience duplicate occurrences of Encounters - surely a result of the massive stack of Encounter cards that we get with Miskatonic.

We (as usual) hoarded our trophies, spending them cautiously on Blessings, so we never used the Institution - something which, looking back, was a mistake as getting to Dunwich from the South of the Arkham board would have been useful on a number of occasions.

Now, it's going to take a few more plays to really get the feel for whether it was Miskatonic Horror that made the difference, but my gut reaction is that it did. If this initial reaction is confirmed by multiple plays then I'd say that Miskatonic is well worth the investment.

Most of my games are having many more monster surges too. This must be the Miskatonic Horror?!
