Does the sheriff decide who gets it, or does nobody get it? I realize that this wouldn't matter for the jack or queen face, but what about the bank. Does the sheriff decide who gets the money, or is the stagecoach money just added to the bank's money for the next turn?

Nobody gets it. In the case of the bank, the stagecoach money is added to whatever is on the bank.

This is why straights can pay off in a big way. You have access to a lot of options that others may not have gone for, hoping for the payoff with the highest hand with aces.

Yes, but a straight almost never wins the highest hand. At least in the games I played.

This may seem obvious, but I tell new players... Sometimes on the first roll, all the dice are different and I think it's a crappy roll. But don't forget to check if it's a straight; a straight on the first roll is great, because you're out and everyone else is stuck with only one more die roll.
