I just got the game Guillotine today and will be playing it later tonight with a group of friends. Is there any advise people could offer to make sure its a fun experience?

I recommend playing fast and keeping things light. Don't take it too seriously, because ultimately it's a giant luck-fest (although a fairly amusing one.) If people are going to get all uptight about being able to have a "strategy" and making the absolute best play every turn, it's going to drag and just not be fun.

One person in my group suggested a houserule where the action card you get to draw at the end of your turn can only be done if you played one, citing that makes the game go quicker. I respectively disagreed. I believe the premise is having too many action cards overloads a player with too many choices, but if your exisiting action cards were lousy, you'd want new ones anyways to give you options. The aciton cards you had should'nt slow anything down b/c you already knew what they're about and already considered playing them.
As mentioned, this game can be chaotic, so try not to overthink it. Especially so when you have more players. For that reason, I don't mind adapting this game for 6p if need be. I just use 13 or 14 noble cards instead of the standard 12, and when you start the next day/round, make the new start player the one who's sitting 2 spaces to the right of the start player from the last round.
Ohh, and the usual stuff.... it may help to read out the text on noble cards when they come out to the line the first time so that people sitting far away can have an idea of what they're about. If the acito card that reverses the line gets played, simply switch the guillotine stand from one end of the line to the other, rather than physically switching all of the cards.

Also, be sure people are familiar with how the spaces in line are counted (as in who gets moved where). That is often confusing to new players.

I agree with Brad, this game is about having fun.
I suggest you do silly things while playing to get the group going, most of the time the other players fallow suit (no pun intended)

Also, remind everyone that some action state "move one noble forward up to 2 spaces" vs. "move one noble forward exactly 2 spaces". The latter is often missed confused into the effect of the former
