If the Dark Pharoah is the herald (Each time an investigator gains an Exhibit item, roll a die. On a failure, that investigator is cursed), and the player starts with the Egyptologist skill (investigator starts with an Exhibit card), does that investigator need to roll for a curse before the game begins?

Each time. I'm lookin' at you Carolyn Fern. The bright side is, if you're using Ancient Whispers, the character can have Exhibit Encounters without fear of being cursed again. Well, according to some of the posts I've read, the investigator has to roll each time and on a failure, a new curse replaces the old, so there would be no roll to get rid of it as long as a new item was acquired and the roll failed.

Yup indeed. The AO and herald are determined before items are dealt out.

If the investigators have to suffer sanity loss from starting UIs, then it follows that they must be cursed for starting EIs.

I think he Meant Vincent Lee, to heal the stamina.

And, you do not roll for your curse the first Upkeep you have it, but the Dark Pharaoh's stamina-loss ability occurs anyway, because it activates in the period where you would have rolled for your curse if you were able to. Not rolling the die does not preclude your stamina loss.

This means that the boiling blood affects Rex Murphy too, and we all know how nasty that will be.
