After a long time in the shelf we decided yesterday to try this one out.
Got to say at first that the game is much easier to understand once you set it up & play a couple of turns. We were overwhelmed by the amount of info in the rulebook (which is horribly written btw) but the game turned out to be much simpler to learn. We eventually sorted out every question we had except one:
In the center of the portal board there are 3 symbols ( +2 might, 7 gold, 7 fame). When & to whom are these awarded?
I've searched the rulebook & the forums but couldn't find any clarification for this.

its simply the 7th portal that has to be closed by anyone of your gaminggroup by spending 7 gold and 7 fame on it.
Who ever closes any of the portals will get the +2might each in the Valuation Phase.
