Here is my suggestion on how to find the staring player in El Grande:
Each player select a region with the secret disk.
All the player reveal their choice.
The players now look at the track that you use during the scoring round (the one that starts with the picture of the secret disk).
The player that has choosen region farest to the east on the track without any other player choosing the same region is the starting player.
